Dreyer shot through gauze and let the negative fog until the film stopped being photography and became a rumor. Nothing in it is quite located. Portal do this to sound — riffs that exist but cannot be pointed at, drums arriving from an adjacent room. Watch the shadow that leaves without its owner. Listen for the moment the guitar stops being a guitar. Same event, different century.
