The Terror (1963)

Corman had two days left on a castle set and a young Jack Nicholson, so he shot a film with no script and figured it out later. It plays like a dream that keeps forgetting its own premise — which is, accidentally, the most gothic thing possible. Nightbringer make deliberate what Corman made by accident: occult density, no clear floor plan, a sea that arrives at the end to settle things.
